Mr. Toplofty is one of the two secondary antagonists in An American Tail : The Treasure Of Manhattan Island. He is one of the factory owners who, like his associates, Mr. Grasping and Mr. O'Bloat, is greedy and corrupt. He is voiced by the late Tony Jay.
Role
Mr. Toplofty was the first to find out that Papa Mouskewitz was a troublemaker to the factory and convices Mr. Grasping to keep an eye on him after he got what he wanted out of him. Mr. Grasping agrees, so The Factory Owners sends Chief McBrusque to keep an eye on Papa, while sending Scuttlebutt to spy on Dr. Dithering to see if the good doctor has anything in his collection of treasures that could be of any use to them. In the end Papa convinces everyone that they have made themselves foolish monsters, and that they should be friends with the Indians.
Toplofty, Along with Mr. Grasping And Mr. O'bloat are defeated by the workers and the Indians, presumably to be arrested.
Personality
Mr. Toplofty shares the same personality of Mr. Grasping and Mr. O'Bloat, but appears much more convincing then the others. He was the first to find out that Papa was a troublemaker and he supported Dr. Dithering's research as part of the're public commitment to culture. After Papa convinces the mice that the Indians mean no harm and the factory owners as the real enemy, Toplofty was furious and blames Mr. Grasping for making everyone hate them (presumably for lying that Mousekewitz was a foreigner and not one of them, when in reality they were all foreigners).

- He is voiced by the late Tony Jay, who also voiced Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and Shere Khan from The Jungle Book 2 and TaleSpin.
- Mr. Toplofty is almost similar to Shere Khan from TaleSpin as they were both voice by Tony Jay and were both greedy and corrupt business villains. The difference is that Shere Khan is more of an anti hero, as he does have a sense of morals and is willing help aid those who have helped him.
